Caterpillars Edge Past Yinzers, 2-1

Fans of the Grand Forks Caterpillars who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Grand Forks win over the visiting Monroeville Yinzers, 2-1. Roberto Becerra started for the home team against Aquilino Meléndez. Aquilino Meléndez earned accolades for his performance. Auno Toivola earned the save for Grand Forks, his 1st of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Sotaro Otani came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Monroeville pitcher Mike Davis, he hit a 1-2 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Grand Forks on top, 2-1.
Otani attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
