Liberty U-24 Win at Columbia, 4-2
|
Michael Adkins was locked in. The left-hander led the Philadelphia Liberty U-24 to a 4-2 win against the Columbia River Rats at Columbia Stadium. In 7.1 innings, Adkins surrendered 11 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Pete Gross earned the save for Philadelphia, his 1st.
Philadelphia used a well-timed hit by Derek Brooks to capture the win. The catcher socked a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put the Liberty U-24 ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"That's how you're going to be successful," said Liberty U-24 manager Dan Fletcher. "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."
Philadelphia sits at 3-7 in the early going.
