Yinzers Hand Alaskan 2-0 Loss
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Monroeville Yinzers and the Alaskan Bush Pilots, pitcher Robert Martin was the difference between victory and defeat. The Monroeville right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-0 Yinzers win. Martin yielded no runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 1-0. Burton Goodman closed out the game, earning his 2nd save.
Randy MacBeth had a big solo home run for the Yinzers in the top of the fourth inning. With Monroeville leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Whip Linkletter and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Yinzers on top, 2-0.
"It was our day today," Martin told the Monroeville Gazette. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
The win leaves Monroeville with a record of 3-9.
