In a low-scoring contest, Walla Walla pitcher Tony Smith was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 2-1 win. António Díaz, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. The Walleye, now 8-4, have played some good baseball in the early going.

Herb Jones played the role of hero for Walla Walla. In the bottom of the ninth, he launched a solo home run off Bryan Miller to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was the decisive blow.

"This game had its share of tense moments," Jones said, postgame.
