Yinzers Win at Yucca Valley, 5-2
|
The Monroeville Yinzers got a good effort from starter Matthew Brown in defeating the Yucca Valley Yellows at Ballpark of Yucca Valley. The final score was 5-2. Brown, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up no walks. The 9th-place Yinzers own a record of 7-15.
Monroeville used the timely hitting of Reed Francis to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Yinzers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm happy we won," said Brown. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
