Liberty U-24 Get Clutch Win Versus Delmarva
|
The Cage was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Philadelphia Liberty U-24 and Delmarva Gallos.
The Philadelphia Liberty U-24 did just enough to sneak past the Delmarva Gallos, 4-3, at The Cage. Philadelphia pitcher Pete Gross, in particular, had a standout performance. In 7.1 innings, Gross surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. He allowed 3 runs. Picking up the save was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Ismael Díaz.
Philadelphia won the game in part because of Ben Álvarez. The first baseman ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Liberty U-24 ahead, 4-3. For the game, Álvarez had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
Álvarez called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
Philadelphia, at 14-9, holds down 4th place in the Silver A.
