The Laredo Hawks put together a convincing win at Smokies Stadium, defeating the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus, 13-2. Rover Diggins was one of the hitting stars. He went 4-4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and 2 walks, while scoring 4 times and driving in 2 for Laredo. Rusty Russell picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-1. He struck out 10 in 7.1 innings. The first-place Hawks raised their record to 16-8.

With Laredo leading 4-2 in the top of the fifth, Diggins hit a fastball from Ron Cox for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Hawks ahead, 6-2.

"That game had disaster written all over it," said Smoky Mountain skipper Hong Wei Cao. "I could feel it."
