The Caldwell Chiefs topped the Myrtle Beach Seahawks, 10-1, at Pipers Ballpark. Caldwell right fielder Shane Wood was a spark plug for the offense. He went 2-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. Sebastian Mawle, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-0. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 11 and walking 3. At 20-7, the Chiefs are currently first in the Silver A.
Wood made an early impact for Caldwell when he stroked his 6th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which came in the bottom of the third, put the Chiefs on top, 4-0.
"Not much went right for us," Myrtle Beach manager Clay Myers said, when asked afterward about the game.
