The Yucca Valley Yellows did just enough to sneak past the Pontiac Godfathers, 5-4, at Ballpark of Yucca Valley. Yucca Valley shortstop Emílio Gutiérrez, in particular, had a standout performance. Ed Hull, the winner, goes to 1-1. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Ralph Dougherty closed the game out for Yucca Valley, earning his 4th save.

With Yucca Valley leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Gutiérrez hit a fastball from Clemens Schlöndorff for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Yellows ahead, 5-0.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Gutiérrez told the Yucca Valley Daily News.

With the win, Yucca Valley raised its record to 16-12.
