The Columbia River Rats knocked off the Philadelphia Liberty U-24, 5-3, in USSL Single A action at Liberty Youth Field. Columbia pitcher and Charleston, South Carolina, native Jesús Varela had an outstanding performance. The winner was Varela. He threw 6.2 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Franklin Vaughn. The win puts Columbia at 22-10 this season.

Mark Harris, who is tied for 6th in the SA in extra base hits with 12, took Philadelphia hurler Franklin Vaughn deep in the top of the first. His 2-run home run put the River Rats on top, 2-0. In all, Harris had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
