Smoky Mountain first baseman Conor Bretherton had a good game, even if his team did not. The Hobeaus dropped a 7-6 decision to Grand Forks at Smokies Stadium. Bretherton was 2-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Jerry Fry picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Luis Quiñones was tagged with the loss. At 14-24, Grand Forks is in 9th place in the Silver A.

Grand Forks took advantage of an error in the top of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 5-5, when Richard Ventura hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Caterpillars in front, 6-5.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Ventura, "and then get after it again."
