Herons Absorb 6-0 Home Loss
|
The Monroeville Yinzers picked up a win at Mango Yard, topping the Holy City Herons, 6-0. On the mound for Monroeville was right-hander Jeff McElroy. He played a principal role in the triumph. Aquilino Meléndez sewed up the save, his 1st. Monroeville has now won 3 in a row.
Larry English had a big 3-run home run for the Yinzers in the top of the first inning. With Monroeville leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Georges Combes and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Yinzers on top, 6-0.
English expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
