In a low-scoring game between the Yucca Valley Yellows and the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus, pitcher Richard Fernández was masterful on the mound. The Yucca Valley right-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. The 4th-place Yellows are 21-20.
Had Fernando López not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, López hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Yellows.
López called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
