River Rats Deal Godfathers 4-2 Loss
|
The Pontiac Godfathers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher José Sandoval into a win. Instead, the Columbia River Rats prevailed, 4-2, in 12 innings. Sandoval threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Neil Smith snagged the win in relief. He goes to 3-0 on the season. Johnny Matthews suffered the loss. Columbia is now 25-17, Pontiac 20-22.
Columbia used the timely hitting of Curt Strickland to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 12th inning to put the River Rats on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Said losing manager John Moss: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."
