Walleye Need Extra Frames to Get Past River Rats
|
The Walla Walla Walleye picked up a win at Columbia Stadium, downing the Columbia River Rats, 4-2, in 12 innings. On the mound for Walla Walla was right-hander Layton Irving, who played a pivotal role in the win. Walla Walla pitcher William Scott got the win, upping his record to 4-1. Denzel Brown got the loss. The third-place Walleye bumped their record to 26-20.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Henry Hayes? The 23-year old center fielder Hayes stroked a 2-run double in the top of the 12th inning to put Walla Walla up, 4-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Irving.
