The Caldwell Chiefs had to overcome a big game from Smoky Mountain center fielder Larry Rothrock to leave Pipers Ballpark with a victory. And they did, winning, 6-3. Rothrock was 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Caldwell raised its record to 27-19 with the win.

The Chiefs got a big at-bat from designated hitter John Gotaas. For the game, Gotaas went 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 9th double of the season gave Caldwell a 4-2 lead.
