Godfathers Squelch Caterpillars Offense in Shutout Win
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Pontiac Godfathers and the Grand Forks Caterpillars, 20-year old right-handed pitcher Álex Canseco was the difference-maker. The Pontiac right-hander spearheaded the 3-0 win. Canseco yielded no runs over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 1 hit, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-0. The save was credited to Carlos Ramos, his 11th.
Henry Jans had a big 2-run home run for the Godfathers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Pontiac leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a sinker from Auno Toivola, who is tied for 4th in the SA in quality starts with 7, and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Godfathers on top, 3-0.
Jans called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
Pontiac sits in 9th place in the Silver A at 21-28.
