Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Philadelphia Liberty U-24 got the win.
Philadelphia turned a good effort from starter Michael Walker into a win over the Pontiac Godfathers at Pontiac Copperdome. The Liberty U-24 won the game, 4-2. Pete Gross collected his 7th save.
Philadelphia used the clutch hitting of Emílio Ruíz to snag the win. The center fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Liberty U-24 ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
Ruíz attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
The Liberty U-24 now have a mark of 24-29.
