The Columbia River Rats withstood a fine game by Smoky Mountain designated hitter Gui-fan Leong at Columbia Stadium, to upend the Hobeaus, 3-2. Leong went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Scott Hall. He is now 2-0. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 4 innings. With the victory, the River Rats upped their record to 35-23.
Mike Wheeler, who is tied for 2nd in the SA with a .940 OPS, helped out the Columbia cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the first baseman was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Smoky Mountain skipper Gianni Martin.
