Caldwell Scrapes Out 4-1 Win
|
The Chiefs grabbed a win, 4-1, at Columbia Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Columbia pitcher Mathias Monnier. Monnier went 7.2 innings and allowed no runs. Caldwell reliever Yoshinaka Yamanoue picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Dave Farmer was saddled with the loss. Caldwell is now 50-29, 2 games up in the Silver A.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Amikishi Saginov? The 22-year old third baseman Saginov stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put Caldwell up, 4-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Caldwell skipper Jorge Agramunt.
