Riding the 3-hit performance of the 21-year old catcher Tom Richmond, the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus stopped the Grand Forks Caterpillars, 6-1. Steve Romero got credit for the win, improving to 9-5. He allowed 1 run on 8 hits in 7 innings. The Hobeaus raised their record to 33-47.

There was more than one reason the Hobeaus beat the Caterpillars, but Richmond's big at-bat in the top of the second was an important factor. He staked his team to a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Richmond told the Smoky Mountain Herald.
