Win Makes Columbia 49-38
|
In a low-scoring clash between Columbia and Monroeville, pitcher José Bojórquez was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned praise for his performance in the 3-2 River Rats win. Bojórquez, the winner, moves to 3-2. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks. Picking up his 3rd save was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Roy Harris.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the River Rats grabbed the lead when Curt Strickland rapped a two-out double. Columbia was trailing 2-1, when Strickland hit a 2-run double off Jeff McElroy to put his team in front, 3-2.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Monroeville manager Jack Willis. "But we decided not to take it."
Columbia, at 49-38, sits in third place in the Silver A.
