The Mancelona Torch could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Knud Sterner into a win. Instead, the Grand Forks Caterpillars prevailed, 3-1. Sterner threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Hirokazu Fukuda was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 23 of 24 save opportunities. With the win, Grand Forks upped its record to 54-40.
It could have been a different outcome for Grand Forks, had it not been for John Sears, the 22-year old third baseman . Sears contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Grand Forks up, 2-1.
Grand Forks manager Oriol Razo commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
