Gil Newell Named SA's Best Player
Tuesday, September 28th , 2060
At the age of 22, Gil Newell of the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus could very well have his best years ahead of him.

It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 2060 was good enough to win the catcher the USSL Single A Outstanding Hitter Award.

"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."

The top hitter put up a .323 batting average this year, as well as a .419 on-base percentage. He played 67 games and racked up 80 hits, 10 doubles, no triples, 12 home runs, 33 RBIs and 39 runs scored.

He received 6 first place votes out of a possible 10. Matt Askin of the Columbia River Rats finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Mike Wheeler of the Columbia River Rats finished third with 1 first place vote.
