Syracuse's Newell Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits Friday, May 6th, 2039 It was almost a perfect day for Rick Newell. The Syracuse center fielder displayed a hot bat today, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day, but something was missing: The Storm lost to the Alameda Airmen, 9-6. Newell told BNN reporters after the game that luck was "fickle." Syracuse manager Theodore Johnston told the beat writers otherwise. "There was no luck today," he said. "He got 5 hits because he has a solid approach to hitting and he put it all together today, and we lost because the rest of us didn't put it together so well." Rick Newell hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Vas Atepko in the 7th, singled in the 9th, struck out in the 11th and walked in the 14th.
