Mississippi-St. Louis Trade: Thomas for Ren Sunday, August 4th, 2041 It likely won't turn either team into an instant contender or provide a huge franchise shakeup, but the Mississippi Mockingbirds and St. Louis Coeur finalized a trade today. Mississippi will send 29-year-old SS Melvin Thomas to the Coeur, while the Mockingbirds will receive 22-year-old minor league RF Yong-hong Ren and $4 in cash. "We think this is a deal that will help out both teams and we're glad to get it done," Mockingbirds general manager Beau Carsten said. The trade is expected to be officially completed later today with the players joining their new ballclubs by the end of the day. Mississippi will retain a portion of Thomas's remaining contract. In the current season, Thomas has put up a .262 batting average with 74 hits, 7 home runs, 35 RBI and scored 27 runs. |
