Nobles Announce Tiburcio Will Retire Friday, September 23rd, 2044 His Bakersfield Nobles teammates were not terribly surprised when Melvin Tiburcio announced his retirement today. In a low-key affair, Tiburcio explained his rationale. "My aches and pains have caught up with me. They don't seem to go away like they used to when I was a kid," he said. "I'm spending more and more time in the trainer's room and less and less time preparing for my next game. I've come to a realization that I've done what I can in this game and spending more time playing baseball is just stealing from my future self." When asked, the team manager noted "Melvin has always been an honest man and when he says he's done, well, he's done." Tiburcio's lifetime stats include 35 wins and 39 losses with no saves. He has posted a 4.85 ERA and recorded 384 strikeouts in 681.2 innings. |
