Mockingbirds Top Kingfishers, 6-5
|
The Pittsburgh Kingfishers and Memphis Mockingbirds provided some drama for the home crowd.
Memphis Mockingbirds starter P.J. O'Day turned in a workmanlike performance against the Pittsburgh Kingfishers at Magnolia Park. The save went to David Thornton, his 21st this season.
Memphis designated hitter Lee Lee produced at a critical juncture. It happened in the bottom of the eighth with Ernest Cooley on the mound and Memphis leading 5-2. Lee hit a sacrifice fly.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Pittsburgh manager Tyler Johnson. "But we decided not to take it."
Memphis is now 52-41, while Pittsburgh is 52-41.
