Grey Wolves Get Better of Lighthouse, 6-5
|
The Vancouver Grey Wolves and Long Island Lighthouse played an entertaining game for Wolf Den in Vancouver patrons.
With shortstop Robin Merlet leading the charge, the Vancouver Grey Wolves defeated the Long Island Lighthouse, 6-5, at Wolf Den in Vancouver. Merlet, who finished 5th in the SL in batting average with .298 in 2060, went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Johnny Daniels, the winner, improved to 6-3. He held the Lighthouse to 3 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 3.
In the bottom of the fifth, Vancouver center fielder Peter Young had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Young stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 5-3, Vancouver. For the game, he was 1 for 3 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
Young told reporters after the game: "Close wins always feel extra good."
Vancouver sits in 4th place in the Silver League at 51-48.
