Mockingbirds Lose at Home, 5-1
|
Magnolia Park was the site for United States Silver League action featuring the Memphis Mockingbirds and Ft. Worth Cattlemen.
The Ft. Worth Cattlemen got a marvelous performance from pitcher Les King. The right-hander kept the Memphis offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 5-1 Ft. Worth victory at Magnolia Park. King picked up the win for Ft. Worth, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0.
Jeremy Brooks had a big 2-run home run for the Cattlemen in the top of the sixth inning. With Ft. Worth leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a sinker from Noud Taaij, who led the SL in ERA with 2.10 in 2058, and punished it. The result was his 22nd home run of the season, which put the Cattlemen on top, 4-1.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," King said after the game.
Memphis's current losing streak has reached 4 games.
