Crowds lined up early in front of Charleston Armory, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2062 Menard's Third League season. On the mound was Miguel Angel Vargo for the visiting St. Louis Coeur and Pham Phung for the hometown Charleston Battery. In a spirited contest, the Coeur pulled out the win, defeating the Battery by the score of 5-4. Especially impressive was Wilbert Bradley. St. Louis reliever Dave Farmer picked up the win, while Mario Rosales took the loss for Charleston. Robert Brooks wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.

Had Walt Allard not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Allard hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Coeur.

"We took home the win," said Allard. "What's not to like?"
