The Charleston Battery topped the Pittsburgh Kingfishers, 4-3, in Menard's Third League action at Charleston Armory. The game was highlighted by the performance of Charleston pitcher Kevin Brown. Brown got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 6 hits and walked 3 over 8 innings. He allowed 3 runs. The save was credited to Harry Richter, his 1st.
Charleston right fielder Johnny Gonzáles contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a changeup to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 4th hit of the season and put the Battery ahead, 2-0.
"Kevin can overpower you," said Charleston manager Matt Hunt.
Pittsburgh is now 1-1.
