Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Charleston Battery got the win.
The Charleston Battery did just enough to sneak past the St. Louis Coeur, 4-3, at The BFIB. Charleston pitcher Mike Moore, in particular, had a standout performance. Moore got the win, improving to 3-0. He gave up 6 hits and walked 3 over 6 innings. He allowed 1 run. Juan Carlos Mejía earned the save, his 1st, for the Battery.
Charleston relied on the bat of Chad Ware to get the win. The second baseman ripped a 2-run triple in the top of the fifth inning to put the Battery ahead, 3-1. For the game, Ware had 1 double and 1 triple in 5 at-bats.
"Mike pitched like a champ," said Charleston manager Matt Hunt.
The loss drops St. Louis to 10-6.
