The St. Louis Coeur grabbed a win, 8-5, over the Kingston Ponies at Megaffin Park. St. Louis second baseman Marion Cassano went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. David Hudson, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held the Ponies to 4 runs on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Picking up the save was 36-year old right-handed pitcher George Law.
With St. Louis leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Cassano hit a run-scoring single off Kingston hurler Edward Small. It was the 19th hit of the season for Cassano and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"We maximized our offense today," said St. Louis skipper Scott McMahon. "That makes everyone's life easier."
For the Ponies, the loss makes their record 6-11.
