Rainbow Mermaids Lose Versus Seattle, 3-1
|
The Seattle Rocketeers downed the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 3-1, at Boeing Dome. Stellar pitching by Jason Kofod had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 6th in the PL in strikeouts with 32, handcuffed his opponent all game. Kofod got the win, improving to 4-2. He gave up 7 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. The third-place Rocketeers improved to 14-10.
Tied up with the Rainbow Mermaids in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rocketeers got a boost from second baseman Carlos Villegas. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Villegas saw a 1-1 sinker from Mitsuo Yoshida and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Seattle on top, 2-1.
"Jason did a good job mixing and matching," said Seattle manager Andrew Powell.
