The inspired effort of Buckhead first baseman Dillon Bert was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-4, to the Cape Coral Hurricanes. Bert was 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Lawrence Higgins, who finished 3rd in the 3L in wins with 12 in 2060, was the winner. He's now 2-1. The loser was Christian Roberts. Mark Smith nailed down his 4th save.
Brian Byrd, who is tied for 9th in the 3L with a .356 batting average, helped out the Cape Coral cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the third baseman went 1-3 with a double.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Buckhead manager Kerry Hofmeister.
Cape Coral now has a record of 7-10.
