Slumping Battery Lose Again
|
St. Louis and Charleston played a hard-fought contest.
St. Louis Coeur pitcher George Washington was in top form, leading his team past the Charleston Battery, 3-1. Washington yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. His record improves to 3-3. Chris Gibson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
St. Louis used the hitting of Chia-ch'ing Chen to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Coeur on top, 2-0. For the game, Chen had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"That's how you're going to be successful," said Coeur manager Scott McMahon. "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."
The losses continue to mount for Charleston, which has now dropped 7 in a row.
