The Echo Park Lakers rode a solid performance from 29-year-old starting pitcher Bernardo Cruz to a win, beating the Dayton Dirty Reds, 5-1, at Lang Park. Sanya Matlah got credit for the save for Echo Park. It was his 2nd of the year. The Lakers improved to 14-13.
Richard Tanner drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Echo Park. With two out and the game tied in the top of the seventh inning, Tanner, who is tied for 7th in the 3L in triples with 1, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Dayton hurler Jim Hunter, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead.
Said losing manager David Dodds: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
