"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.

Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting.

Pham Phung of the Charleston Battery proved the point at 5 Paces Park, holding the Buckhead Bowties to 3 hits in a complete game shutout victory.

"Phung made us look real bad today," Bowties manager Kerry Hofmeister said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."

Phung had 4 strikeouts and gave up no walks as the Battery took the 3-0 win.

Thus far this season, Phung has worked 58.1 innings with 58 strikeouts en route to a 4-2 record and a 2.93 ERA.
