Bakersfield registered a win at Jerome Grounds by beating the Sacramento Redlegs, 3-2. Pitcher Nick Johnston was one reason why the Nobles triumphed. The winner was Johnston. He threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Mauro Ramírez. The save was credited to Ed Dodman, his 1st.

Tied up with the Redlegs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Nobles got a boost from center fielder Will Johnson. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Johnson saw a full count sinker from Mauro Ramírez and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Bakersfield on top, 2-1.

"If we keep winning the close games," Johnston said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."

Bakersfield goes to 2-1 with the win.
