Rocketeers Pull Out Late Win, 4-3
|
The Toronto Thunder could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Juan Cruz into a win. Instead, the Seattle Rocketeers prevailed, 4-3. Cruz threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball. Seattle pitcher Bill Hayes earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Floyd Seymour suffered the loss. The Rocketeers, at 18-10, have now won 5 straight.
The Rocketeers relied on catcher Mel Kiper III for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Rocketeers manager Andrew Powell.
