Ellenburg pitcher Mal Edwards had a large part in his team subduing the Sacramento Redlegs, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Edwards, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Claude Richardson nailed down the save.
H.R. Pickens, the 12th overall pick in the 2057 draft, had a direct impact on the outcome. Pickens contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Ellenburg up, 3-2.
After the game, Ellenburg manager Pedro Rodríguez applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The loss drops Sacramento to 0-3.
