Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Syracuse Starks and Montreal Machine.

Riding the 3-hit performance of the 31-year old center fielder Matt Dunham, the Syracuse Starks defeated the Montreal Machine, 9-2. Conan Knox got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 11 hits and 1 run, while striking out 4 and walking 3.

Syracuse got a lift in the bottom of the sixth from catcher Paul Ferguson, who hit a sinker to left for a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season put the Starks up, 3-0.

"I loved our energy," said Syracuse manager Homer Robertson. "I loved the way we played."

Syracuse sits at 4-2 in the early going.
