The Syracuse Starks picked up a win at Stade Olympique, downing the Montreal Machine, 5-3. On the mound for Syracuse was right-hander Hugh Mann, who played a pivotal role in the win. Bob Porter claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record stands at 1-0. Mario Méndez nailed down his 2nd save.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Carl Watson? The 23-year old first baseman Watson stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Syracuse up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Syracuse manager Homer Robertson.

With the loss, Montreal drops to 2-6.
