The Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys could not turn a fine performance from pitcher J.J. Hebert into a win. Instead, the Bakersfield Nobles prevailed, 5-2. Hebert threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs. Francisco Encarnación, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-0. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. The loss makes Syracuse 5-5.
Bakersfield used a timely hit from Mike Thompson to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Nobles ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said Nobles manager Timmy Appeldoorn.
