Rainbow Mermaids Get One-Run Win at Toronto
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids beat the Toronto Thunder, 4-3, at Thunder Field. James Murphy, who finished 3rd in the PL in triples with 6 last year, starred for Northern Virginia. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times. Noud Taaij got the win, improving to 4-3. He worked 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 4. The 6th-place Rainbow Mermaids now have a record of 17-15.

Murphy had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a 2-2 changeup from Brandon Fox, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Rainbow Mermaids a 4-3 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Murphy.

"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Murphy.
