Syracuse pitcher Jorge Vázquez did his part in helping his team beat the Tortolita Drummers, 7-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Vázquez yielded no runs over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 4, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-0. Earning his 1st save of the year was Millard Clement.
Paul Johnston cracked a home run off António Cisneros in the bottom of the third. His 3-run blast put the Starks on top, 3-0. In all, Johnston had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Solid performance from our side," said Starks manager Homer Robertson.
Syracuse sits at 8-7.
