Toronto Upended, 7-2, by Memphis
|
Memphis got a strong outing from Noud Taaij as the Mockingbirds defeated the Toronto Thunder, 7-2, at Thunder Field. Taaij, now 3-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. Marvin Velásquez got credit for the save for Memphis. It was his 1st of the year.
Had José Roseta not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Roseta hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Mockingbirds.
"We didn't play well enough to win," Toronto skipper Jordan Smith said.
With the win, Memphis has a record of 17-19. Toronto falls to 20-16.
