The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids had to reckon with Toronto Thunder hurler Juan Cruz. Cruz, who is tied for 2nd in the PL with a 9.6 K/9 rate, overwhelmed the opposition in the 6-1 Thunder triumph. Toronto is now 14-22, Northern Virginia 18-18.
Making an impact for the home team was Tom Francis. In the bottom of the fifth, the former first round draft pick had a run-scoring walk. That made the score 3-1, Thunder.
Francis told the Toronto Herald: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
