Tortolita Upended, 9-1, by Baton Rouge
|
The Baton Rouge Brass beat the Tortolita Drummers, 9-1, at Brass Field. Paul Brown went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The 29-year old right fielder was a menace to Tortolita all day. Jorge Valdéz was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed no runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Earl Hicks notched his 2nd save of the season.
Nick Everett had a big 2-run double for the Brass in the bottom of the third inning. With Baton Rouge leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 35-year old left-handed pitcher Iban Wilson and swatted a double to center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Brass ahead, 3-0.
Said losing manager Marcos Costa: "At the end of the day, we've got to play better."
Baton Rouge is first in the Premier AAA with a record of 17-9.
