The Montreal Machine finished off the Nashville Hot Chickens, 6-3. Much of the credit belonged to center fielder Mario Ortíz. Ortíz went 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Machine. Brian Hill, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-2. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 3. Brian Boggs earned the save for Montreal, his 1st.
Ortíz made an early impact for Montreal when he stroked his 2nd home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which came in the bottom of the second, put the Machine on top, 5-0.
"In this profession, you've got to put the good and the bad behind you quickly," Nashville skipper Paul Dawsey said.
The 7th-place Machine are 16-20.
