Stingers Collect 4-2 Win Versus Northern Virginia
|
Toledo first baseman Daniel Webster contributed significantly to his team's 4-2 win over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. Webster, who finished 3rd in the PL in home runs with 23 last year, went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Stingers. Francis Davis got the win, improving to 2-1. He worked 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. With the win, the Stingers have a record of 24-17.
It could have been a different outcome for Toledo, had it not been for Elijah Smalls, the 25-year old center fielder . Smalls contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Toledo up, 3-2.
"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Webster, cracking a smile.
